11/28/2012: We love to try out new fruits. In the picture you can see unripe to semi-ripe safous. The safou (Dacryodes edulis) is a fatty fruit, native to Africa. It tastes very interesting, it reminds a little bit of olives. To be honest we didn’t really like the taste and in addition the fruits do not look too appealing once they are fully ripe. Their colour changes from the beautiful pink-lilac to brown and noble rot develops on the peel which has to be washed off. Additionally as a fatty fruit it was far too dense for us. But all in all it was an interesting experience.
