Piel de Sapo

At the moment our staple food number one is the Piel de Sapo or Santa Claus melon. It is a huge melon, one fruit weighs between 3,5 and 4 kilograms and it has a green, blotched peel (“piel de sapo” means “toad skin”). It tastes delicious, it is very sweet and juicy. The melons we get here are grown in Spain and we buy them from a Turkish fruit merchant. The ones we got on Tenerife were also from Spain (Peninsula).
